The effect of intermittent radiotherapy on the cells’ survival

Safoora Nikzad

Abstract

Many studies have been carried out or in progress to investigate the outcome of the prolonged treatment period, and any interruption over the treatment period. In the above mentioned studies, the effect of different parameters such as dose per fraction, number of subfractions, time between subfractions, total treatment times and α/β ratio on the cells’ survival have investigated. The results of these investigations showed that the total time to deliver a single fraction may have a significant impact on IMRT treatment outcome for tumors with a low α/β ratio and a short repair half-time. But for cells with high α/β ratio this effect is less and sometimes is not significant. In this study we have reviewed the results of these effects on different cell lines.
